SoccerTalk #26 FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup, Thierry Henry’s home, De Rosario signs new deal, Timbers Army on TV, Reserve League Schedule Announced, US National News

AROUND MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER

The FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup begins today. MLS sides, Los Angeles Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake and New England Revolution will all be playing in this preseason tournament. New England takes on LA and Red Bulls take on RSL. These teams will play 4 games in this tournament and will be a great way for the teams to continue preseason training. Check out FCTucson.com for more information on the event.

Off the record and a couple days late, yet pretty amazing to say the least. Thierry Henry of the New York Red Bulls is demolishing his $ 9.5 million London mansion to build something that I feel is ridiculous and at the same time epic. He is building a 5,500 gallon fish tank that its dimensions are 3 ft by 15 ft by 40 ft and will be visible on every floor of the new mansion. Not really soccer news but something amusing nonetheless. He joins the likes of David Beckham with insane fish tanks in a home.

MLS MVP Dwayne De Rosario has signed a new deal with D.C. United. The terms have not been disclosed at this point but with his astonishing 16 goals over the season and stints with three different teams over the past year have shown that the veteran can still get it done. With this deal signed D.C. United is on the road to a better standing than last season already. Expect De Rosario to be a building point for the team this season.

MLS Supporters Group, Timbers Army (supporters of Portland Timbers) will be featured on an upcoming episode of the Independent Film Channel’s series Portlandia to tackle the issue of noobs. Yeah, noobs. This gets MAJOR exposure for MLS Supporters Groups and pushes the culture that much farther into the main stream. The sketch will feature the Timbers Army along with JELD-WIN Field, where the actors go for a Timbers match… The show will air on IFC on Feb 24 at 10pm EST. Even if you’re not a fan of the show it should be worth checking out just for that particular spot.

Monday marked the announcement of the MLS Reserve League schedule. The Reserve League clubs will be split into three divisions, Eastern, Central and Western as they were last season. Each reserve club will play a total of 10 games this season for a total of 95 games for the league’s season. The division split is as follows (Credit MLSSoccer.com)

Eastern: Columbus Crew, D.C. United, Montreal Impact, New England Revolution, New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Union, Toronto FC
Central: Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, Sporting Kansas City, Real Salt Lake
Western: Chivas USA, LA Galaxy, Portland Timbers, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps FC
